Keep Watering Your Seeds

Yesterday, while waiting on ‘the bench’ outside the supermarket for Chris to finish the pre-Easter shopping, as usual my men buddies were entertaining.

I was trying to be jolly; however, my back pain was excruciating.

One of my bench ‘buddies’ is in a wheelchair. He has only one leg. I felt blessed to at least be on two legs.

‘You don’t look your usual happy self,’ Frank commented. I gazed at his friend in the wheelchair.

‘I’m okay,’ I say to the man in the wheelchair, Bill. ‘I can’t complain.’

‘Yes, you can,’ Bill chipped in. ‘If you feel like shit, say it! Don’t feel sorry for me. Because I’m in this seat, it doesn’t mean yours doesn’t matter! Or yours is inferior, or less than my circumstance.’

Frank then said, ‘how do you really feel?’

‘Happy not to be in a wheelchair!’ We all laughed, because he expected me to say, ‘like shit!’

The lesson I learnt from Bill was, although my pain may be different to his, and his pain different to mine, we were all really friends sitting side by side on ‘our’ bench, enjoying our short time together as an unusual combination of characters.

Something between us grew flowers, while the rain was gently falling outside.

The moral of this story is… we are all in this together, and something good is growing from what we are all going through, in one way or another!

Keep watering your seeds!

In gratitude and love eternally for my bench friends.  xxx
